The Soldier at the Western Front – Military Psychiatry
Source 1: Letter from the infantryman Franz Müller

Description of CSR symptoms by an afflicted. Excerpt from the letter of the infantryman Franz Müller, 21st January 1915:

„Because of the huge exhaustion – especially during the last three days when our trench was literally ploughed up by the enemy artillery I incurred a mental illness, so that I was put back on the 8th of November, two days before the general assault. […] I can only stay up for a few hours each day, the damned illness has caught my innocent legs, so that pain and numbness in the legs and in my right arm impede my progression. Imagine the 92 kg warrior struggling tedious between beds and chairs – this is a mockery!"

Letter from the war in private property, Franz Müller the 21th of January 1915 cited according to: Ziemann (ed.): Frontalltag im Ersten Weltkrieg. Wahn und Wirklichkeit, Frankfurt am Main 1994, p. 103.
